UNC-SO Resources for New Degree Programs
Request for Planning Authorization
A Request for Planning Authorization (RPA) is submitted to the UNC-SO for permission to plan a new degree program. The RPA demonstrates workforce need, student demand, return on investment, and alignment with institutional and UNC System priorities.

- Use the Insight Data Dashboard to access student demand, education premium, workforce alignment, peer comparisons, and earnings data to support program proposals.
Request to Establish
If the RPA is approved by the UNC-SO, a Request to Establish (RTE) will be submitted to the UNC-SO. The RTE is a comprehensive academic and operational plan that focuses on curriculum, faculty, implementation, assessment, and sustainability.
