General Education Assessment

The General Education (GE) program at ECU is organized into seven competency areas. Courses within each of the competencies expose students to a broad range of human knowledge, encourage students to build skills necessary to succeed in the major and future pursuits, and prepare students for meaningful participation in society.
The GE program assessment process is characterized as course-embedded, faculty-led, student learning-focused, and improvement-oriented. The process focuses on the overall effectiveness of the GE program, and is not an evaluation of individual students, departments, or faculty members. ECU assesses the GE competencies on a four-year cycle. IA supports faculty in each phase of the assessment process by facilitating data collection, pairing assessment data with institutional data, conducting analyses, disseminating results, and assisting departments in creating and documenting action plans to improve student learning.
Information about ECU’s GE Program is in the GE Program section of the catalog. There you will be able to view the program’s vision statement, information about GE competencies and course credit, and the GE competency areas and outcomes.
